:D Hi All,

Im still pushing through this thing and have ordered ADSL and a router so that I can get a proper server working that will recognise my Tivo. But until I can get them up and running Im wondering if there are any bods out there who have a working knowledge of Winxp who can give me some advice on the different settings that I need to have my PC on to run ICS for the Tivo.

I have played around with seemingly endless combinations and haven't seemed to get anywhere.

Can anyone post exactly what the settings should be in WinXP?

Set up at present is

PC running WinXP with an ethernet card
Ethernet swtich
Tivo & Turbonet card

Failing that how hard is it to set up a linux thingymagiggy on the PC specifically to run my Tivo connection?

Any more advice would be appreciated.

Marv

Marv you poor bastard

You are like a dog with a bone though - I'll give you that!! :)

You could always get some local computer guy to help set up your network with ICS and DHCP etc, probably cost you a little bit of money but you might get a result...rather than dicking around for another week!

Could you copy and paste to this thread the output of your ipconfig command from your XP PC.

ie go to a command prompt (start -> run -> cmd ) and type "ipconfig /all" [no quotes]

That way we will know what IP/netmask etc your PC is, then someone should be able to show you how to get into the TiVo via serial and set the IP address etc of the TiVo to allow you to go to the next step.

Make sure your network cables etc are OK.

Ok cool -if you get a serial connection going (i've never used one) I assume you get presented with a prompt when connected to the tivo.

Then you run the command "nic_config_tivo" [no quotes]

[TiVo [p0] /]# nic_config_tivo

This will bring up a menu. Choose 3 for 'change ip/gateway'
You get: New IP address [x.x.x.x dhcp]?

Enter in 192.168.0.2 and hit enter.
Then follow the prompts enter in a mask of 255.255.255.0 and a gateway of 192.168.0.1 (your XP PC).

Once you've applied and saved this information, you should probably reboot your tivo and see if you can ping it from your xp box after a few mins.

ping 192.168.0.2

if you get a reply then you can use putty to telnet to it or maybe even http://192.168.0.2 from a web browser.

Gotta go to work - try that - maybe someone else can lend a hand.

Good luck

I really seem to have the midas touch with the ol Tivo hyuk hyuk hyuk

For those interested (im sure everyones royally sick of me by now anyway!) ive got my ADSL router and am just waiting for Telecom to install the line.

Meanwhile I now seem to be having heaps of trouble with the Hyperterminal. Whereas I used to be able to use it at will, now it seems to only work sometimes.

I am following the instructions on a Serial Howto - I change the bits per second rate to 9600, change the flow control to none, hit enter, go to properties and change settings emulation to VT100 and the ASCII settings to "echo typed characters locally" - lo and behold sometimes it works others it doesn't.

It is a little odd, sometimes it goes like a dream other times it doesn't work at all!
